The "Buy It or Not?" Method: Sourcing Collectibles with a Max-Buy Price

June 24, 2026

The sourcing gamble

Every dealer has been there: you are standing in an estate sale, you see something interesting, and you have about thirty seconds to decide whether to buy it. The math that should inform that decision — what it sells for, what fees and shipping eat, what your minimum return is — is not the math you can run in your head while someone else is reaching for the same box.

One photo, a max-buy number

The Buy It or Not? tool flips that into a single decision. You snap a photo. The AI identifies the item, pulls comparable sales context, estimates shipping based on a realistic weight and dimensions for the category, and then — using the eBay fee percentage and minimum return you have set for your account — calculates the maximum price you can pay and still hit your target net.

You look at one number. If the asking price is under it, you buy. If it is over, you walk. No spreadsheet, no estimates scribbled on a receipt.

Tuning it to your business

Every dealer's floor is different. You set:

  • Your eBay fee percentage (so the net math matches your actual category fees).
  • A minimum net return per item — the absolute floor below which the deal is not worth the handling time.
  • An optional minimum ROI percentage for categories where you want a return multiple, not just a flat dollar floor.

The effective minimum is the greater of the flat floor and the ROI-based number, so a $5 floor and a 20% ROI both protect you without one silently overriding the other.
